A Chesterfield can be produced from Whole Hides or patchwork.
Is a Chesterfield made of patchwork a lower quality Chesterfield, as some other providers state? The answer is no. We explain this further below.
There are two options for the processing of the leather on the Chesterfield furniture. We work with:
a. complete, so whole skins
b. cut to size selected parts of the skin
The under point b. said processing is called patchwork. In the market it is sometimes condescending that patchwork is made from waste skins or residual material. With us the opposite is true. All furniture from "The Chesterfield Brand", including the patchwork, fully meets the high quality and environmental requirements of this brand, with exactly the same warranty conditions. Patchwork is even the ultimate quality craftsman's craft! And it shows.
The patchwork: process, quality and technique
With our patchwork method, the entire skin is first cut as optimally as possible. Good patchwork is the most economical and environmentally friendly way to produce. It requires great craftsmanship and is an art in itself. All pieces of leather with an irregularity such as bites or other scars can be sorted out. The leather that is subsequently used is of a constant quality. Another big advantage: much less residual material remains than when processing an entire skin, which means less impact on the environment. In addition, patchwork is easier to process and therefore less labor-intensive. All this translates into more economical production costs and a lower price for the customer.
Through careful selection of the leather parts, only the right pieces of leather come together for processing. If desired, combinations can be made in different colors or shapes. Then the leather pieces are stitched together in a special, traditional way. The craftsman then carefully folds the leather over the stitched leather pieces, so that the stitching is no longer visible, but disappears under the fold. At the same time, this technique ensures a good distribution of the pressure: not only on the stitching, but also on the fold. This gives the leather on the furniture optimum strength, stability and bearing capacity for greater and durable seating comfort.
Is a Chesterfield from "The Chesterfield Brand" made of patchwork a lower quality Chesterfield, as some other suppliers state?
For the entire collection of the "The Chesterfield Brand" brand, there is no difference in quality in a chesterfield made of whole hide or a chesterfield made of patchwork. The same warranty conditions therefore apply to both products.
